About Stuart Addison – Norwich Drum Teacher
I started playing drums in Norwich at the age of 9, and 27 years later I am a full time drum teacher working in the Norwich area. Over the past 20 years I have played hundreds of gigs all over the UK, notched up dozens of recording credits and completed the Artist Development Programme at the British Academy as well as achieving a Distinction at Grade 8.
Throughout my career in music I have always enjoyed learning and I continue to do so myself. I have played in orchestras and Percussion ensembles, musicals, shows, function bands, original bands and each of these different experiences has taught me something and helped me to develop as a musician. As well as playing Drum Kit and Percussion, I have also worked with a lot of drummers in a venue and sound technician role. Working at The Waterfront and UEA in Norwich for artists such as Ed Sheeran, The Script and Ellie Goulding as sound crew, as well as freelance working with artists such as Meatloaf, Girls aloud and Boyzone at large outdoor events across Norfolk and East Anglia. Although not all to my personal taste, they are all huge professional artists in their own right and seeing their shows come together was invaluable. Seeing this side of the industry and how a production is approached from this angle gave me a huge amount of insight into live music. Learning the best positions for microphone placement as well as which microphones are best for each job and why. Sound checking drums at a pro level and tuning and preparing drum kits for drum clinics with some of the most famous players in the world. These are all experiences that help you to learn why things are done a certain way and how to make your job as well as everybody else involved easier for the greater good.
I aim to encourage and pass on the knowledge I have gained through enjoyable and informative drum lessons in Norwich. Until recently I set up and ran a busy teaching studio in Norwich providing around 150 lessons each week and I therefore have a very close relationship with both RSL (Rockschool) and Trinity exam boards. I am currently the Percussion teacher at 2 of the countries leading independent schools and I have been for the last 10 years. I am also a co-founder of the BACK-BEAT drum collective in Norwich. I play Drum Kit and Percussion for various bands in and around the city and I am currently the drummer for Deadbeats and Dan Foden as well as doing a lot of freelance recording for a number of artists. I currently offer 15 slots each week for private drum lessons and percussion lessons in Norwich. This enables me to really focus on what each student wants to achieve and to help them to do it. Please get in touch to check availability and if I am unable to help then I will happily recommend somebody else that I know of teaching drums in Norwich.
